Amsterdam dance event (ADE)
The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is an electronic music conference and festival held every year in October. The event attracts over 400,000 people from all over the world and offers a full program with 1,000 events over just 5 days.
There’s multiple parties at every hour of the day – for five days straight!
See 5 things you should know about ADE below.
1. Buying Tickets
There is not just one venue hosting artists at ADE, there’s around 200 different venues hosting events over the course of the 5 days. So – buy the right ticket! Look at the website for a list of venues and events that you can choose from.
2. Become an ADE Member
Before diving in and buying tickets it’s a good idea to sign up to become an ADE Member. With this membership you can access ‘My ADE’, add personal information, and automatically sync your ticket purchases. You can also link up your social media accounts e.g. Facebook and Spotify, and My Ade will match any artists you follow to your recommended events.
3. Booking Accommodation
Book in advance! Like, really far in advance. With hundreds of thousands of people flooding to the small city of Amsterdam for this music event, accommodation gets booked up really quick and prices increase. Like many cities, booking accommodation in the centre is better for transport links and getting around, however if you want to save some money and book further outside of Amsterdam then make sure you’re near a train station (ubers and taxis can get really busy around ADE).
4. Travelling Between Events
Planning your journeys in Amsterdam is easy to do on Google Maps, or you can download the Dutch travel app 9292 which has slightly more reliable info for metro, tram and ferry. Remember that the public transport system is totally cashless, so make sure you have a credit or debit card with a pin. Alternatively Uber is widely used all over Amsterdam and can be a good way to get around in a big group.
Or – if you fancy it – hire a bike! Make sure to ride with your lights on and don’t use your phone, as there’s every possibility you could get fined up to 100 Euros..!
5. Amenities
Lockers
Nearly all venues will have lockers which you rent for a small fee. Since the festival takes places in October it can get pretty cold – you’ll want to carry extra layers.
Toilets
All venues will have toilets to use. Plus there’s public toilets on the city’s main squares, at train stations and in bars/cafes. You can be arrested for peeing in the street, so try to refrain!
