Amsterdam is filled with cafes baking traditional Dutch sweets like pancakes, muffins, waffles and apple pies. Being very international there’s also a big demand for good quality coffee, and lot’s of local roasters who are brewing world-class coffee have started popping up. So many cafes to choose from, but see some of my favorites below!

Back to Black

For brilliant coffee, a laid back atmosphere and great homemade snacks head to one of two Black to Blacks. It was founded by two Dutch ladies who are passionate about sustainable coffee production.

Coffee & Coconuts

This is an all-day brunch cafe and coffee roastery built around chilled, chic beach-shack vibes. Located inside a reformed 1920s cinema, Coffee & Coconuts is spread across several levels leading to an super airy and bright interior.

Coffee & Such

Located on the trendy shopping street of Haarlemmerdijk, Coffee & Such is an independent cafe serving quality coffee roasted by White Label Coffee Amsterdam. They have lots of vegan milks like oat, soya, almond and also a wide variety of vegan and gluten free cakes and bakes.

De Drie Graefjes

One of the most popular places to buy cake is De Drie Graefjes, and with four locations in Amsterdam you’re never too far away from their carrot cake, hummingbird cake, or cheesecake. They also offer a ‘High Tea’ where you can get a selection of sweet and savoury snacks.

Scandinavian Embassy

For some of the best pastries in Amsterdam, definitely check out Scandinavian Embassy. Cinnamon buns that will make you drool, and super tasty coffee too.

Lot Sixty One

Run by two Australians, Lot Sixty One is a small, light cafe/coffee roastery selling some of the best coffee in Amsterdam. Located on Kinkerstraat just down from Food Hallen, a large indoor street-food hall.

Bakers & Roasters

Experience a New Zealand style cafe served with a heavy dose of Brazil. They serve up brunch and dinner dishes, fresh salads, and kiwi-twisted baked goods all day long.

Het Stadspaleis

The cutest coffee house in Amsterdam, Het Stadspaleis is a family-run cafe located inside a tiny wooden house in the center of Amsterdam. In winter enjoy a hot drink and homemade cake round the fire, or in summer sit outside on the terrace.

Winkel 43

The Netherlands is famous for it’s apple pie, and Winkel 43 is the place to get it! Enjoy a slice of apple pie with a coffee, right by the canal in the picturesque area of the Jordaan.

Dignita Vondelpark

With two great spots in Amsterdam, Dignita has a delicious menu of homemade cakes and pancakes including white chocolate and rhubarb pancakes, using mostly free range and locally sourced ingredients.
