1. Waterkant
When it comes to bars, this hidden gem in Amsterdam is one of my absolute favourites. Tucked away beneath a car park and behind a petrol station, stepping into Waterkant feels like uncovering a secret. But once inside, you’ll find a sprawling, open waterside terrace bathed in sunshine – a hotspot for locals during the summer months.
Waterkant is even accessible by boat, making it a must-visit stop if you’re hiring a boat and exploring the canals!

2. Hannekes Boom
Hannekes Boom is centrally located but slightly hidden from the tourist track. This bohemian hang out is constructed from reclaimed wood and salvaged materials, with a huge outdoor beer garden and a rooftop bar and terrace. They often have live music and DJ nights and a great drinks and snacks selection.

3. Pllek
One of my favourite drink spots in Amsterdam, Pllek is a water-side bar and restaurant serving food and drinks from 9am till 3am. This laid back beach-side bar is located in the north of Amsterdam, easily accessible by passenger ferry which departs from the back of Centraal Station.
The best thing about Pllek is the location – it has unrivalled views over the River IJ and has plenty of bean bags, hammocks and benches facing the water.
With a focus on sustainability, 75% of their menu is vegetarian and they use mostly local foods.

4. The Butcher Social Club
Experience food, music, games and art in this large, casual hubspot. This buzzing bar is located in the Sir Adam Hotel next to the A’DAM Tower.
Dig into their mouthwatering burgers, then challenge your friends to endless rounds of foosball, Ping-Pong, pool, or pinball.

5. Hangar Amsterdam
Set in a repurposed riverside hangar in Amsterdam North, Hangar blends trendy, modern vibes with a rustic-chic charm. This restaurant attracts both locals and visitors with its inviting atmosphere and scenic location.
In the summer it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a beer while soaking up the waterfront views. In winter, cosy up with a cocktail by the bar.

6. Brouwerij ‘t IJ
Tucked inside a former bathhouse next to a towering windmill, this small Amsterdam brewery offers a picturesque setting to enjoy a beer. The beers are top-notch – order a tasting flight to sample a variety of their draft brews, and pair them with some classic Dutch snacks for the full experience.

7. Bierfabriek Amsterdam
Drink and dine surrounded by beer tanks at this microbrewery tucked away on a small street just off Dam Square. At Bierfabriek they brew their own beer and serve incredible slow-roasted chicken – juicy and packed with flavor.
What makes this spot truly unique are the draft tap tables, letting you pour your own beer right from where you’re sitting. There’s also unlimited peanuts you can snack on, tossing the shells on the floor as you go!

8. Delirium Cafe
Delirium Cafe is is the largest craft beer bar in Amsterdam, boasting an extensive menu so big that the available beers are listed in a ring binder! With over 500 bottled beers and around 20 craft beers on draft, there’s something for every beer lover to enjoy.
Located near Centraal Station and overlooking the water, it’s an ideal spot to relax and savor lazy beers in the sun.

9. Floor 17
If you’re staying in the west of Amsterdam and have a soft spot for rooftop bars, Floor 17 is a must-visit. Perched atop a hotel in Rembrandtpark, this spacious bar offers stunning sunset views, delicious cocktails, live DJ sets, and even BBQs. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the city’s vibrant energy from above.
